Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Tuesday arrested husband after a complaint made by a woman, for sending a triple talaq message to her through a postcard. According to reports, Mohammad Haneef (38), a supervisor at a textile showroom, was arrested in Kukatpally.
Couple got married on March 9 from Talabkatta. A very next day after the marriage, Haneef left the house and told his wife that he is undergoing a treatment at a private hospital.
On March 19, the wife received a postcard from Haneef in which he had written three times talaq and said that the decision was taken in presence of two people.
Later he gave her a call regarding the same. The woman then went back to her parental house in Talabkatta and informed her parents of the incident.
The police registered a case of cheating and arrested Haneef from his house.
Triple talaq is a controversial Muslim practice that has been debated and is being challenged in the Supreme Court, however the apex court is likely to take up the matter whether or not to ban the practice on May 11.
